Hail Damage
What the work involves.
Hail damage is hard to see from the ground and easy to see from the roof. A roof can look untouched from the driveway while every slope carries dozens of bruises. That gap is why so many homeowners in Lewisville only find out about hail damage years later, when the roof starts leaking and the storm that caused it is long past the claim deadline on their policy.
On an asphalt shingle, hail leaves a soft spot where the mat has been fractured and the granules knocked loose. The exposed asphalt dries and cracks faster than the rest of the shingle. Other signs show up on the metal around the roof: dents in the vents and flashing, dents in the gutters and downspouts, and spatter marks on painted fences and window screens. Those are the same storm, and an adjuster looks at them too.

The Difference
What to know before you decide.
Size and wind decide how much damage a storm does. Hail about an inch across, roughly the size of a quarter, is usually where shingle damage starts, and wind-driven hail does far more harm than hail falling straight down because it strikes the slopes facing the storm at an angle. That is also why damage is often worse on one side of the house than the other.
A hail inspection covers every slope, the ridge, the vents and flashing, and the soft metals that show a storm most clearly. We document what the storm did so the damage is on record. A roof with hail damage across every slope is the kind of roof insurance replaces.
When the damage supports a claim, we work with your insurance through it and deal with the insurance company on the roofing side. When the claim is approved, the roof is replaced with premium shingles over double bonded synthetic underlayment, with ice and water barriers and vents. Gutters, downspouts, window screens and fences are often part of the same claim, and we handle gutters as well as roofs.
Time matters with hail. Many Texas policies set a deadline for reporting storm damage, commonly one year from the date of the storm, and the longer a bruised roof sits the harder it is to tie its condition to a specific storm. If a hailstorm came through your part of Denton County and nobody has been on your roof since, book the free inspection now.

Hail Damage, answered.
How do I know if hail damaged my roof?
From the ground, look at the soft metals: dents in gutters, downspouts, roof vents and the AC unit, and granules piling up at the bottom of downspouts. Those point to damage on the shingles, which only shows up close. A free roof inspection settles it.
What size hail damages a roof?
Shingle damage usually starts with hail around one inch across, about the size of a quarter. Smaller hail driven by strong wind can still damage older or brittle shingles, and larger hail can crack shingles outright.
How long do I have to file a hail claim in Texas?
Check your policy, because the deadline is written into it. Many Texas homeowner policies require storm damage to be reported within one year of the storm. The earlier the roof is inspected, the easier it is to connect the damage to a specific date.
Will a hail claim raise my insurance rates?
A single storm claim is usually treated as a weather event across a whole area rather than a sign of risk at your house. Carriers set rates in different ways, so your agent can tell you how yours treats it.
